Big White is the second largest ski area in British Columbia and has the only true ski-in, ski out village in the province. With an average annual snowfall of 24 feet, and an average winter temperature of minus 5C, its a great spot for winter fun. Lots of high speed lifts and remaining relatively unknown and uncrowded makes for short lines and loads of skiing.
A great family resort, with lots of beginner and intermediate skiing right around the village. If you like a bit more of a challenge, head for the many mogul runs, the trees (from intermediate to more advanced) or the Cliff area with its newer chair. A seven mile intermediate run takes you through the “snow ghosts” at the top of the t-bar to the bottom of Gem Lake. With such varied terrain you’ll never get bored. After over 12 years skiing Big White we still find spots we've never been! And don’t forget the award winning Telus Snowboard Park. The Resort also boasts a award winning ski/board school and children's program in the Kid's Centre.
Apres ski activities vary from free nightly family events in Happy Valley to gourmet dining in one of the 18 on hill restaurants and a lively bar scene with frequent live music. Yoga classes, spa treatments and personal trainers are available for those so inclined.
And what if you have family who doesn’t ski?
The resort abounds with many other activities and services including Dog Sled Tours, Day Spas, Skating rink, Ice climbing tower, Snowshoeing, Tubing, Nordic skiing, Snowmobiling (my nephew highly recommends), Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides, Shopping shuttles and Personal or Group Fitness training. For the less active, fireside reading (there are a few books in each unit), movie watching from the HD PFV cable service and walking in the mountain air may be more appealing.
